Around every twist and turn, there's a new sight to soak up, whether it's a vintage bookshop, an ornate church spire, or a hilltop castle. But the natural beauty of Edinburgh is breath-taking, too, complete with soaring bottle-green hills, rust-coloured crags, and the shimmering sea in the distance. The age-old scenes go hand-in-hand with the stunning vistas, creating a city that's incredibly cosy and cultural. For the contemporary traveller there's a collection of trendy pubs, impromptu concerts, all-night parties, and an eclectic mix of top-notch shops. Explore the Literary Side of Edinburgh
As well as age-old history and stunning scenery, Edinburgh is also known for its literary history. Its landscapes have inspired numerous poets and writers over the years, and there are plenty of monuments dedicated to the art of words.
Start by having a coffee in the Elephant House Café. Not only are the hot drinks some of the best in the city, it's also the place where J K Rowling wrote the first few Harry Potter books. So, grab a table, tuck yourself in amongst the little elephant effigies dotted around, and soak up the inspiration.
It's difficult to walk any kind of distance in Edinburgh without coming across a bookshop. The city is literally filled with them, which makes it the perfect stomping ground for literary lovers. Check out the Old Town Bookshop, one of the best in the city, as well as Analogue Books and Word Power Books. Take some time to browse the dusty bookshelves and immerse yourself in a number of different worlds.
If you want to step in the footsteps of literary genius, take the Dorothy Wordsworth tour around the city. Wordsworth journeyed to Edinburgh with his sister in 1803, and she wrote some stunning prose about its beauty and unique atmosphere.
To finish, make your way to the National Library of Scotland, which is a heady display of vintage books, maps, and letters. Here you can browse through rare manuscripts by the likes of Byron, Austen, and Melville.
Delve into the heart of literary greatness with our Edinburgh apartments, which can be found around all of these havens of words.

Easing Your Way into Edinburgh - Getting There
Edinburgh airport is just five miles away from the centre of Scotland's capital, and there are a number of ways you can easily get into town.
Firstly, there is the premium Airlink bus service, which leaves the airport every 10 minutes and travels to Waverley Bridge in the centre of the city. There are a few stops throughout the west of the city, too, if you're staying in that part.
Alternatively, if you'd prefer a more budget-friendly option, then hop on the local bus. It takes slightly longer than the Airlink bus, but it travels to more parts of the city and offers you the chance to see some of Edinburgh before you actually arrive.
Finally, you can also grab a taxi from outside the airport terminals. There are plenty of stands and the prices are reasonably affordable. Obviously this isn't the cheapest option, but if you're looking for speed and convenience then it's the best way to go.
