Although Serbia is in the process of rebuilding itself following the war, it still has much to offer visitors eager to discover new countries. From the capital Belgrade, where its flagship building, the Kalemegdan Fortress, stands proud (and can be seen by those who cross the banks of the Danube) to Novi Sad, known as the Athens of Serbia, the whole country is enigmatic and charming. A visit to the Petrovaradin fortress is essential; from there you can see the immensity of the Danube. In addition, there are other must see places such as the Fruska Gora National Park, an untouched forest area; Sremsi Karlovci, a baroque city, as well as a cultural and spiritual centre; Palic Lake, one of the largest and most beautiful parts of Vojvodina, and the mountain of Zlatibor, known as the "mountain of golden pines".
