I'm not going to lie this accommodation is only suitable to those who are mobile, don't mind walking up steps or who have access to a car. This is clearly outlined by the property so it shouldn't come as a surprise. The area is lovely and picturesque, much better than Amalfi, which is just around the corner.

Villa Rosa was nice but the hill to get to the main road is vertical. They have no way to help you get to the top especially when it is time to leave with your luggage. Luciano luckily helped us with some of our luggage, but you would think with a vertical hill they would have something. The small town below doesn’t offer many different options for food, but the views are spectacular. Overall it was fine, but it’s very remote and the location is inconvenient.

Hidden gem!
A great property to host a family. Our own patio area and access to the pool which was clean and had great views / sun. The property is in a stunning valley between Ravello and Atrani. No need for a vehicle whilst there as Atrani (and Amalfi) are only a short walk away where you can get to the beach and the town centres with access to shops and lovely restaurants.

Tranquil, rural retreat
This is a very lovely, rural property built into the mountainside outside Atrani. The road ways within the property are very steep with lots of steps too. Probably best suited to those with cars to get around though there is a great bus service that stops just up the road on the route between Amalfi & Ravello. At the rear of the property is a walkway of about 200 steps down to Atrani & Amalfi is a short walk from there. The villa I stayed in was spotless, loads of room, fully equipped kitchen & rooftop sun terrace. However there is no air conditioning so it was always very warm. Lovely quiet pool area & self service laundry facility. A very tranquil atmosphere through the property. Probably best suited to families or those looking for a quiet break.

Ignore the negative comments about this place and come and enjoy the facilities - and the amazing views! You will undoubtedly have read about the 350+ steps from Atrani to the property and, sure enough, these are a challenge. However, the property is well run and is very clean, and the views from the terrace and pool are amazing. We had room 5 with the large terrace and were not disappointed. Check in was handled by the groundsman who, despite speaking only Italian (no big surprise - in Italy!! People should stop moaning about that and learn to speak some Italian if it bothers them that much!) was very helpful and tried his best to settle us in. We were given some basic amenities to get by the first couple of days, which we were grateful for, and we bought more in Atrani during the week. The pool area is in a good spot and there's even a free-to-use washing machine (which worked fine!) to refresh clothes if needed. We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Rosa and would definitely consider coming back, as the majority of the other residents also said while we were there. Clearly the steps will be an issue if you have mobility issues or are unfit, but if you don't mind a mini workout after your evening meal this place is ideal. Atrani is a lovely small town and Amfali (a short walk through a pedestrian tunnel) is truly stunning. Ravello is more challenging to get to - we walked down to Amalfi and got the bus, The driver dropped us in Atrani on our return.

The views from the property are amazing, we stayed in the residence with a sea view and so glad we did, wow. It is only a short walk down to Atrani with plenty of steps but we welcomed the walk back up after our evening meals out. The walk up to Ravello is a little harder going especially as we had a 4 year old but we tended to catch a bus up to there from Amalfi which was very easy to do and walk back down which only took 20 to 30 minutes. The only real criticism of Villa Rosa was that we had no WiFi for the full 10 day stay but this did not worry us too much as we spent most days exploring but may have been nice to be able to use the WiFi in the evenings. All in all I would highly recommend Villa Rosa but only if you are happy to a little walking up and down steps which we had no issue with.

Tips for staying at Residence Villa Rosa
The apartment with large balcony had the most amazing views!! We loved the unit and if was very clean. The entire property is gorgeous however it’s not super easy to find or get too. Lots of steep winding hills even once your inside the gates to get to your room. A few things to note; you can only have 1 car - or 10 E additional per day. On this 3 BR unit that is a bit unrealistic and there were many empty spaces so i thought it was excessive. There is a community washing machine but no dryers. The gentlsn that checks you in speaks no English so that was tough and prucess slow if he doesn’t have a translator. Our flight was delayed 4 hours so were were 45 minutes late getting there and since it was after 8 we got charged 50E additional. Kind of a bummer. I asked for more towels after 2 nights - it’s 6 people and was told i had to pay for another set- that this was an apartment not a hotel. So somethings were very annoying. Overall price was reasonable vs hotels but there is nothing around it. You would want to already have your groceries. You can walk down about 300 steps to the turn of Antrini for food. You come out right at the square and beach. Mistral Pizzetia was very yummy!

Gorgeous Facility and Stunning Views
Always take the bus up!!! haha, we thought we could walk up to the hotel, google maps only said 20mins, but it was stairs the whole way, lol. But! once we got there, a lovely man came and collected us from the front gate by cart, and got us checked in. Note that there is a 200 euro cash deposit at check in. BUT! once we got down to our room, WOW!!! absolutely stunning! the Suite was massive, charming, unique tiles, mountain rock side in the living room, stunning terrace and a gorgeous view of Amalfi. We even got a little bottle of limoncello to welcome us. However, note that this place did get very chilly and very damp at night. We were here in the middle of May, so it might be really nice in the hotter months. We could have used a third blanket. Note: hot water runs out quickly. This property also does have a pool and laundry facilities. The man who checked us in however, didn't speak any English, so that made asking questions a little difficult. This hotel is also one of the higher locations in Amalfi, so it takes about 10 minutes to walk down the stairs to the city, and of course keep in mind the walk back up again.

Comfortable hotel in beautiful surroundings
We found the hotel location to be perfect for us. It is a 15 min walk from amalfi so we found that we were able to escape the crowds whilst being close enough to easy get to restaurants etc. There are a lot of steps to the hotel from atrani but this seems to be the case everywhere along the coast. The rooms are comfortable and airy, the decor is perhaps a little dated but this was not a major problem. We had a terrace which was lovely to sit out on and the pool and surroundings were excellent.

Great pool and local vibe
I really enjoyed staying at this property, but would say physical fitness was a necessity for this location . As with everything in this area, walking can be a workout due to the topography. It was about 560 stairs between our room & Atrani. This walk was not too difficult, and Atrani is a great town with an awesome public beach. Getting to and from the property by bus can be a bit difficult as the location is very hard to find. Additionally, the listing on VRBO does not clarify which unit you will be staying in, which can make a big difference in your experience. I would suggest booking directly through the website so you fully understand your what room views & accommodations you will be getting. (http://www.residencevillarosa.it/) Just for Reference you will pay 13E a day for A/C, if your unit even has this option, and your booking is non-refundable.

Great views, disappointed with service
The view from the terrace was lovely. The service and additional costs were disappointing. We had to pay 50 Euros to pick up keys at 9.30pm as afternoon flights get in Naples at 7pm, checkout at 9am sharp, pay 10 euros each for sheet and towel change and pay 200 Euro deposit. The apartment was well provisioned but no fans or air conditioning made some nights uncomfortable. The noise travels on movements upstairs onto lower flats so earplugs recommended. The address is really Atrani as Ravello is an hour walk and 300 metre ascent.

fantastic view, spacious house, challenging access
Overall we loved our stay here. We would give it 5 stars but downgraded to 4 only because they aren't accommodations for everyone. It is run 'old-school' so there are things the staff finds obvious that the guests may not; luckily we read previous reviews and were prepared for the 200 euro in cash deposit required for the key. There is access to beach on foot which we found lovely but does require on the way back a walk up the hilly steps (8-15 minutes depending on your level of fitness.) If arriving by car, just know that the road access is a narrow one-way-at-a-time road where if you miss the gates you won't be able to back up easily in traffic; driveway itself is downward, a series of narrow hairpin turns. Don Nicola is friendly but speaks very little English, so be prepared to deal in Italian. Read the house notes they leave on the table; you are responsible for the recycling and trash before leaving (not difficult) as well as washing of kitchen items (we found this not too unreasonable.) Laundry facilities great but from our house #4 was about 3-4 flights of steps up the hill.

Although a nice villa complex, it was awkward to drive in and around the complex even though I had good driving skills Steep hills everywhere. Local dogs barking most of the day and night was annoying.

It's a beautiful site, but with the heat wave and all the steps reuired to get down into Atrani, it was not the most convenient. This is a self-catering residence, but some simple food stuffs could have been provided, at least until one gets orientated in the area. You can get some produce from the fruit & vegetable shop in Atrani and he will drive it up to Villa Rossa. Sundays the shops are closed, but there is a store in Amalfi.

Frequent climbing of very steep steps!
The hotel/apartment is not really in Ravello at all. The setting is quite pretty and the terrace was nice and picturesque however it is significantly closer to Atrani than Ravello. It is worth noting that taxi’s will not drive down into the complex due to the severity of the slopes and as a result anyone staying will be doing strenuous and frequent climbing of very steep steps. Overall the area is beautiful but this apartment would be more suited to self catering holiday with occasional visits to other towns surrounding Amalfi than to those wishing to eat out or visit the local beaches

Could be improved. Driveway not for the faint hear
We had the 3 bed apartment with large terrace. There was loads of room and internally it was very clean but everything could be so much better if it was maintained more thoroughly. The terrace furniture was very shabby and the showers terrible. One is a tiny corner cubicle with a dribble of water and the other over-bath shower has no curtain and a broken shower head so water went everywhere. A dishwasher would be great here. There are stairs everywhere ( 60 to the pool and another 20+ to the laundry room). The drive has c.5 hair pin bends - very scary! The views are amazing and the gorge it looks over interesting. HOWEVER the Spar (best/largest supermarket around in this area) is at least 25 mins up very steep and at times unpleasant walk including 5-10 mins on the road. Atrani is down/up, c.300 stairs. The terrace and pool only get sun (in August) between 11am and 4.30pm. The manager speaks no English and will hound you for a 200 euro deposit. This could so easily be a 9 out of 10 but sadly at the moment it's a 5-6.

Self catering apartments with stunning views
Villa Rosa is made up of 9 self catering apartments built into the side of the mountain. We were in apartment 5 which had stunning views down to the small town of Atrani and the sea. The apartment was basic but spotlessly clean. We were met on arrival by the villa's agents (Paola) she was very friendly and very helpful as Mr Nicola the head gardener and the on site contact didn't speak a word of English. If you struggle walking this is not the holiday venue for you. There are approximately 300 steps of all shapes and sizes from the apartment to Atrani, walking down takes about 10 minutes, however the walk back is much longer and more difficult. There are buses from Atrani which I'm told will stop outside Villa Rosa. Tickets must be bought from the Tobacconist in Atrani, you cannot pay on the bus. We choose to walk and by the end of the week our legs were accustomed to the walk. If you are a light sleeper then I would advise ear plugs, the church bells ring on the hour and then every 15 minutes throughout the day and night. There are also a few local cockerels that start crowing about 4am and go on for a few hours.

The room is OK and comfortable and the view is spectacular. No washing-up liquid is provided in the kitchen and the set up of the bath room is not user friendly, e.g. no shower curtain, no hooks, no place to put your towels, etc. There is only one location on the terrace where the Wi-Fi reception is OK.

Picolo
We were disappointed with the size of our apartment as there was no seating and the terrace was overgrown, small and completely shaded all day. It was clean and the bed was large and comfortable, and the pool area was lovely (apart from the sun loungers which kept collapsing!) but we felt completely let down by the lack of space for relaxing, i.e. a comfortable chair to sit on - which I think you need in a self-catering apartment! The lack of space meant that we had to go out every night as there was nothing to do / nowhere to sit in the apartment. The shop is said to be 15 mins away but this is an uphill walk on the coast road and there are no pavements so be warned! The bus is easy and quick but these Villas are not for those that don't like to walk. Atrani is the nearest town and can be accessed down 500 steps so my advice would be to walk down and across to Amalfi, go to the shops there and get the bus back up the hill. We were in apartment 9 which is the smallest by a long way and there were others which looked lovely and some had amazing terraces so my advice would be to be careful which one you book. Also be warned the owner of the place does not speak one word of English which made checking in and out very difficult too - we had to resort to google translate in the end!

Italian Paradise
Residenze Villa Rosa took my breath away from the moment I arrived. Perched on a near cliff-face overlooking terraced lemon groves and the sea. In the afternoon you could hear goat bells chiming in harmony and the scent of jasmine drifts in through the windows from the beautifully kept gardens that surround the apartments. Now it's true, if you have any kind of mobility problem this probably isn't the place for you. On arrival you either have to negotiate a steep path down from the gate from the road (where a bus from Amalfi can drop you off), or up 300 steps from the village of Atrani, but it's totally worth the effort. Once you arrive you feel that you've left the tourists behind and you're seeing the real Italy. It's incredibly romantic. Amalfi is 20 mins walk away with its huge selection of restaurants, but Atrani has some great little family run places to eat which are more authentic and cheaper. I stayed in Room 5 which has a large studio room, a comfortable bed, a great little kitchen, spectacular views and the biggest private terrace that I've ever seen. To stock the kitchen I just walked 10 minutes up towards Ravello to the Spar supermarket, and then on the way home I was coming downhill with my shopping. My one word on warning would be that Franco (who is wonderful) who runs the place doesn't speak a word of English. Having an Italian phrasebook in hand for check-in will make your life a lot easier. Really cant recommend the place enough. Thanks Franco!
