Lake Tyrjänjärvi lies between Finland and Russia. In the middle of the lake is the border of Finland and Russia. From the beach you can move normally about 100 meters to the east or south without border crossing and to the southwest about 1000 m, but thereafter a border permit is needed. If you want to move to north to the north of Viitaniemi, you need a border permit. The border zone is approximately 100 m wide. You also need a border permit if you go skiing on a ski track in the area. In the cottage there is a map with more detail about the areas where you can go. The lake is marked with yellow buoys. If you do not go to the border zone, you can spend holiday in this cottage just like in any other cottages.
Border zone permit is not a fishing license. If you want to fish on the lake, you need a fishing permit in addition to the border zone permit. Border zone permits can be purchased at Kolmikanta border guard station or from website www.raja.fi. Cottage is located about 11 km from the station. When obtaining the permit an identity card or a foreign passport must be accompanied.
