  • The walled city of Mdina is considered the most beautiful city on the island. It was founded by the Phoenicians in 700 B.C. Known as the "Silent City" it is located in the central-western part of Malta. It was the former capital of the island whilst today it is more a living museum. Attractions include the best preserved medieval streets in Malta; the Mdina Museum; a cathedral that dates back to the 11th century; the Palazzo Falson, which was built in the 15th century; the Palazzo Vilhena, which also houses the Natural History Museum, and the Carmelite Convent. Taking a stroll through its streets at night to enjoy the silence is an experience not to be missed.
  • The fishing village of Marsaxlokk is something straight out of a picture postcard. It is characterized by buildings that show Gothic influence, palm trees and blue seas. You can see unique, multicolored gondolas floating on the calm sea; experience the delights of the market that takes place on Sunday; go for lunch at the pier and take photographs of the 17th-century buildings at Fort San Lucjan.
  • The conurbation of the "Three Cities": Senglea , Vittoriosa and Cospicua, is on the road to Cottonera. These three cities are a living portrait of the history of the European Baroque period. Senglea is famous for Fort Saint Michael, which dates back to the 16th century. Vittoriosa will leave you in awe when strolling around Triq it Tarzna. Cospicua, the home of the Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, is a must-see.
  • Mosta is famous for its breathtaking church with its dome that is the third largest in Europe.
  • Make sure you spend a day on Isla Comino. You can catch a ferry to the Isla at Cirkewwa Port in the north of Malta. You can go hiking, spend time beside the sea, take a swim in the crystal-clear Blue Lagoon and take in its beach -- the most visited beach in Malta!
  • Blue Grotto is one of the most visited natural attractions on the island. It is a limestone grotto that has been split unevenly by the sea. Located nearby are the megalithic temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra.
  • The Majjistrl Nature Park is a great choice for hiking enthusiasts. There are several secure paths that visitors can take to see the island's flora and fauna.

Beaches in Malta

Malta has a rocky coast, so a lot of the coves are only suitable for diving and snorkeling.

Golden Bay is the most popular beach in Malta. It has fine sand, the sea is suitable for swimming and it fully caters to tourists.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is very close to Golden Bay; the beach has fine sand and is a pleasant place to sunbath or swim. You can walk between the two bays on foot.

Paradise Bay, as its name suggests, is a paradise. With its fine sands and calm, turquoise water it is ideal for sunbathing, snorkeling or enjoying a day by the sea.

Gneja Bay is a delightful beach with white sands and crystal-clear water. It is located on the western side of the island and does not attract crowds.

All of the beaches have beach bars, toilets and places to hire beach umbrellas and sun loungers.

How to Get to Malta

You can travel by air to Luga International Airport, which is located 8 kilometers from La Valetta. The No.8 bus regularly leaves the stop opposite the departure lounge and goes to the capital's city center. To travel by taxi you must buy tickets at the airport. If you want more freedom of movement you can rent a car.

You can also go by sea to Malta with boats that leave from Sicily, Civitavecchia and Genoa.
