One could argue that Guatemala is the "cradle of Mayan civilization." In fact, more than 4 million people still speak languages that descend from this unique culture, which has left us wonders such as the ruins of Tikal or Takalik Abaj. The country, though relatively small, is very hilly (it crosses the Cordillera de los Cuchumatanes and the Sierra Madre del Sur) except for the south coast and some northern lands, in the Petén area. From the Mayan culture to the Caribbean lifestyle of Livingston, the traditional horse race Todos Santos, or the colorful Chichicastenango, Guatemala has a lot to offer.
