Places to visit in The City of Arts and Sciences
- Prince Felipe Science Museum. The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències has an amazing interactive science museum, with the shape of a dinosaur skeleton. The three-story museum has a large number of interactive exhibitions, workshops and experiments, all in pursuit of a rigorous but fun scientific dissemination.
- L'Hemisfèric. It is a large building, designed by Santiago Calatrava, with the shape of an eye that contains an IMAX cinema, a 3D digital cinema, a planetarium with astronomical projections, and a laser. It is the largest venue in Spain, and it houses the three projection systems on a concave screen of 900 square meters.
- L'Umbracle. This viewpoint, and botanical walk has its own species from the Mediterranean area, and the Valencian Community such as jara, lentisca, rosemary, lavender and honeysuckle, among others. It is covered by its characteristic floating arches. It houses El Paseo de las Esculturas, a contemporary gallery of outdoor sculptures, and an Astronomy Garden.
- The Oceanographic. It is the largest oceanographic aquarium in Europe. It has 110,000 square meters of surface area and its ponds add up to 42 million liters of water. This impressive building was designed by Adrián Peláez Coronado, Alberto Domingo, and Carlos Lázaro. Inside you can learn about the most important marine ecosystems on the planet: Mediterranean, wetlands, temperate and tropical seas, oceans, the Antarctic, the Arctic, islands, and the Red Sea. In addition, it has an impressive Dolphinarium.
- Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. It is an important exhibition hall focused on music and the scenic arts. It has four rooms: the Main Hall, the Master Classroom, the Amphitheater, and the Chamber Theater. It hosts important symphonic musical performances, and operas.
- Pont de l'Assut de l'Or. This impressive road structure has a 125-meter-high pylon, which is the highest point in Valencia.
- The Agora. It is a covered square 88 meters long by 66 meters wide, where concerts, and sporting events are held. Conferences, and conventions are also held in the Agora. The building is surrounded with two large lakes. Some of the most important events that took place in this space are the Spain Freestyle Burn Championship, the special Christmas program of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, with ice-skating and children's shows, and the Valencia Fashion Week.
How to get to The City of Arts and Sciences
La Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències is located in the historic center of Valencia. You can easily reach it on foot or by bicycle from the center of the city through the gardens of the bed of the Turia River. A large, and green oasis, which is the lung of the city.
The bus lines that will take you to the complex are lines 1, 13, 14,15, 19, 35, 95, and 40.
The nearest underground station is Alameda, which is reached by lines 3 and 5.
If you come by train, from the Cabanyal Station, and the North Station you can get there by public transport. Take the bus line 1 from El Cabanyal Station, and line 35 from Estació del Nord, from where you will have to take the underground at Xàtiva metro station (lines 3 and 5). From the new AVE station you can take the metro, line 5, to the Alameda station (about 15 minutes from the site).
From the Valencia airport, it is convenient to take the metro (line 5).
