Apartments near Gallerie dell'Accademia: an artistic stay in Venice

The romantic city of Venice contains a concentration of attractions and treasures not seen in many parts of the world. However, contrary to the image we have of this impressive city, there is much more to see than its recognizable canals, gondolas and bridges. There is also much more to do in this city than attending its famous carnival.

Like most of the Italian territory, Venice also hosts a lot of artistic treasures. The place where you will find some of the most important ones is at the Gallery of the Academy (in Italian, Gallerie dell'Accademia). This institution, once an art school for the most important Italian masters, is located on the south bank of the Grand Canal in Venice.

The Academy was founded in the mid-eighteenth century. The first works were made by people who participated in the institution. More works were arriving from different places, enriching the collection until becoming one of the most important ones in Italy and Europe.

Among the great Venetian masters that can be seen in the Academy Gallery are some like Leonardo da Vinci, Tintoretto, Titian, Andrea Mantegna, Canaletto, Giovanni Bellini, Sebastiano del Piombo, Vittore Carpaccio, Giorgione and Paolo Veronese.

Accommodation near Gallerie dell'Accademia

Venice is a very special city, with its islands, canals, vaporettos and gondolas. However, the tens of millions of tourists it receives every year make it a somewhat chaotic place at times. In its narrow buildings you can find countless hotels, pensions, hostels and bed & breakfast. Some of them are quite luxurious, but you may find simpler ones. Prices are usually quite high, due to the high demand throughout the year.
However, there is an ideal option for those who want a bit of peace and privacy after being rubbing shoulders with tourists throughout the day. That's right, we suggest you rent an apartment. Imagine having your own key to a quaint apartment just for you and the ones who travel with you, where you can rest without interruption, move around at your own pace, with no reception hours, without shared spaces, and with your own kitchen to test your culinary skills when preparing a rich pasta. Imagine taking a wine by the window with a breathtaking view of the canals below. All that is possible if you rent an apartment. And where would be better than the area of the Academy Gallery! Places to visit near Gallerie dell'Accademia

The Accademia Gallery is located in a privileged central location in Venice. Thanks to this, you can access many of the major tourist attractions in the city from this area. Here we have a short list:

  • Church of Santa Maria del Rosario. Commonly known as "chiesa dei Gesuati" is a Dominican temple from the eighteenth century that retains almost intact its design and decoration in Rococo style. It has a striking collection of sculptures and paintings created, as well as the church, between 1725 and 1755. One of its altars has a crucifixion painting by Tintoretto.
  • Squero di San Trovaso. It is one of the few workshops of this style that still survive in Venice. It is a space where, in a traditional way, gondolas and other typical boats of the city are built and repaired. The building stands out for its difference from the rest of the surrounding buildings. There, you can see how they manufacture gondolas, which can take up to several months, with centuries-old techniques. If you are interested you can even order a tailor-made gondola at this location.
  • Church of San Vidal. Also known as San Vitale, it used to be a church but now it is only a concert hall that also holds other events. It's the place where the group of chamber musicians Interpreti Veneziani plays regularly. In addition, inside the building you can see numerous paintings, such as an altar made by Vittore Carpaccio in 1514, and some sculptures. It is also the place where the famous composer Baldassarre Galuppi was buried. It has a tower almost thirty meters high with a bell tower.
  • Guggenheim Museum of Venice / Peggy Guggenheim Collection. This important museum is located in the Palace Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal of the city. Its history dates back to the middle of the last century, when Peggy Guggenheim showed her collection of cubist, abstract, and surrealist art at the Venice Biennial of 1948. The collector then bought the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni and placed her residence there. A few years later, in 1951, she opened her collection to the public. It has works by Picasso, Braque, Duchamp, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Miró, Klee, Magritte and Modigliani, among others.
  • Ca 'Rezzonico. It is a palace that operates as a perfect example of the architecture and decoration of the 18th century in Venice. It is dedicated to the art of that century in the city. The styles that it features are Baroque, and Rococo. In it, you can see pictures of the most important artists of this period, such as Guardi and Tiepolo.
