Park City is an old and picturesque mining town in the state of Utah, located in Summit County, 48 kilometers away from Salt Lake City in the United States of America. Its mountainous, continental climate, with long, cold winters and dry, mild summers, makes it an ideal place for practicing mountain sports. Geographically, it's located in the highlands of the Wasatch Mountains and it's known worldwide for its ski slopes in addition to the tourist and cultural activities that are held year-round.
Its history is linked to the efforts of the silver veins seekers who arrived in 1884 and began building a village followed later by the city. Many men came seeking fortune, however, only a few families were successful. Among them was the family of the press businessman Williams Randolph Hearst, famous for his publishing empire and ruthlessness, which was made into a film by Orson Welles called Citizen Kane. In 1930, the mining boom came to a halt and a new resource appeared that could be exploited, the snow. Skiers began turning skiing into a tourist activity and today it is considered one of the most famous ski resort in the world for the quality of its snow.
The city is a charming blend of modernity and traditions, where remnants of the mining era still remain. It's a pleasure to walk along its streets and discover its past while learning about the history and riches of this mining area. Currently it's also home to the prestigious Sundance Independent Film Festival, which is held during the last two weeks of January.
