In the resort itself, there is a bustling mix of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and a variety of entertainment options for all the family, like horse riding, tennis, golf, and water sports. Being so close to Barcelona means it's the perfect hideaway for locals, as well as tourists looking to enjoy a quieter slice of Catalonia. Our apartments in Miami Platja let you make the most of the peaceful atmosphere here, placing you right in the heart of all the activities and incredible views.
The beaches are one of the biggest draws of Miami Platja, and one of the main reasons so many tourists flock to its shores every year. Along the stretch of uninterrupted coastline, there is a mishmash of hidden coves boasting picturesque views, long swathes of white sand shores perfect for sunbathing and trying some water sports, and a collection of wild and rugged beaches that are so characteristic of this part of Catalonia.
The Playa de Cristal is one of the most popular beaches in the resort, thanks to its spacious dimensions and plethora of facilities and amenities that edge it. It's great for sunbathing, swimming, and kicking back with a cocktail whilst the sun sets.
There's also Playa de L'Estany, which is an impressive stretch of sand that reaches 80m in width in some parts. Even in the high season this beach doesn't feel crowded, and there are plenty of opportunities to get your adrenalin pumping with some water sports.
But it's not just high-adrenalin sports like windsurfing, kayaking, and wake boarding that you can enjoy. There are also loads of places where you can play some volleyball or football along the beach.
Though the beaches are considered sandy, many of the coves feature a coarser grain that's more like shingle. This adds to the wild and rugged atmosphere of some of the stretches of coast in this part of the Costa Dorada.
Aside from the beaches, there are no less than nine coves that complete Miami Platja, including Cala California , Cala Bot , Cala de les Sirenes , Cala del Solitari , Cala dels Vienesos , Cala Santa Fe , and Cala del Misteri. Each of which harbour their own unique personalities. All of them can be reached from the town itself via a series of steps, and you can cross from one cove to the next by navigating the rocks that separate them (only for the confident!).
You can explore all these wonderful beaches and more with our Miami Platja apartments, which are dotted all around the resort. Some boast incredible views of the sea, whilst others are just a short walk from some of the many beaches.
Catalonia is known for its delicious selection of national dishes, and Miami Platja is no different, with tonnes of restaurants serving up local delicacies and other delights all around town.
Romesco is one of the most popular local dishes, which is a sauce made from pine nuts, garlic, olive oil, almonds, tomatoes, peppers, and onion. It can be found served alongside everything, from fish and seafood, to chicken, duck, vegetables, and even snails on some occasions. At certain times of the year you can tuck into Calcotada, which is essentially barbecued shallots served with a Romesco sauce.
If you want to branch away from the Romesco sauce, you can also try rabbit with balls of cod, another delicious delicacy in the area, frogs' legs, various duck dishes, cod stew with spinach and eggs, and a number of sweet treats that are locally made.
Miami Platja accommodation offers a bit of everything for every kind of traveller. Around the beaches there are lots of high-rise hotels with all-inclusive swimming pools and high-end facilities, as well as studio blocks with self-catering apartments that overlook the sea and the surrounding regions. Further inland you can find a number of boutique hotels that tap into the charm of small Spanish village life, and a collection of guesthouses, B&Bs, and homestays, all of which provide a glimpse into local life in Miami Platja. For the budget-minded traveller there are a couple of hostels dotted around with comfortable dorm rooms within easy reaching distance of all the attractions, and a selection of spacious apartments that offer a unique and individual way to explore the region.
Barcelona's El Prat Airport is the nearest airport to Miami Platja and our Miami Platja apartments, which are really easy to get to thanks to the efficient public transport systems.
From the airport you need to make your way to Barcelona's central Sants station, which can be reached on the train from the airport. Journey time takes around 25 minutes. From there, you can pick up the train to Miami Platja, which leave every hour and a half and head towards Tortosa on the coast. This is a wonderful route to travel as you pass many of the popular coastal towns with pretty sea views. This part of the journey takes around 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Alternatively, a lot of travellers choose to hire a car from the airport so they can make their own way to Miami Platja and stop along the way at some of the more enticing coastal towns. Having a car also means you're free to explore the region at your own pace during your trip, and can pop into tiny villages and explore hidden beaches and coves as you go.
Lastly, you can always grab a taxi from outside the airport terminals. This isn't the cheapest option, as the journey takes around 1 hour 20 minutes, but you won't have to worry about carrying your luggage around and you'll get dropped right at your door.
