Apartments in Esbjerg: Short Term Accommodation

Esbjerg is located in the southeast of the Jutland peninsula, opposite the island of Fanø in the Wadden Sea in Denmark. It's Denmark's main port and one of the most important in all of the North Sea. The climate is Nordic, with long cold winters and short mild summers. Esbjerg was founded in the second half of the nineteenth century to replace the Altona port located in Holstein, which was taken over by Prussia after Denmark's defeat in the War of the Duchies. Despite the city being uninhabited when it was founded, traces from the Bronze Age have been found from around 1800 B.C. Only in the late nineteenth century was it recognized as a city. The city grew gradually and new towns were settled, ultimately becoming the fifth largest city in Denmark.
Esbjerg Apartments – Places to Visit in Esbjerg

World War II severely affected its population as they resisted Nazi occupation, however at the end of the conflict Esbjerg was rebuilt and its population resumed fishing and began to industrialize, thus becoming one of the most important fishing ports in all of Denmark. An important commercial and industrial activity also developed as a result of the oil drilling platforms in the North Sea.

The city grew during an urban explosion in the 60s, creating dormitory towns such as Sædding, Hjerting, Rørkjær and Kvaglun and the University campuses. Today the city reaches the municipalities of Ribe and Bramming. Despite the new constructions, Esbjerg has held on to its architectural heritage with incredible churches and beautiful historic buildings. The Danish fondness for outdoor activities can be seen reflected in Esbjerg's beautiful parks and the preservation of wildlife in the city's vicinity.

Industrial development generated by the oil boosted the economy and brought an important cultural activity to Esbjerg. Several art and history museums were opened, which consequently attracted tourism and helped evolve the area's gastronomy towards more traditional Danish dishes, while still incorporating influences from international cuisine. There are many cafes, bars and nightclubs to hang out in at night. Those who love outdoor activities can rent bicycles and visit the countryside or take a tour of the city on two wheels. There are also boat trips around the bay, golf courses and hiking trails through lush forests where you can spot deer and a variety of birds. If you're keen on living in harmony with nature, then you just must visit this charming Danish city. Check out our catalogue of apartments in Esbjerg and rent the one that best suits your needs, so you can experience firsthand the society considered to be the happiest and most balanced in the world.

Accommodation in Esbjerg

Esbjerg is a well preserved port city with beautiful architecture and parks that are ideal for families, as well as many fun activities both day and night. The same good taste and preservation can be found in the selection of Esbjerg accommodation. There are beautiful hotels from the nineteenth century that have been fully restored, with modern rooms and beautiful contemporary designs. Smaller hotels are also available with the same good taste that is demanded by visitors. However, many prefer the popular alternative of renting a tourist apartment, which is much less expensive than renting a hotel room. All the apartments are very nice, spacious, inexpensive, comfortable, well-designed and equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. They have Wi-Fi, fitted kitchens for preparing your meals, a washing machine and dryer, and cable television. It's the best choice if you're traveling with kids, as the entire family can stay under the same roof as if you were at home. If you're only visiting Esbjerg for a few days, then renting a studio is a better option. They are spread out all over the city and are located close to the most entertaining places. If you're only travelling with a backpack and the desire to have a good time, look no further than the B&Bs. The majority are excellent and offer Wi-Fi at no extra cost. For the younger crowd there are also many cheap hostels. With all of these suggestions the only thing left for you to do is to check out our catalogues and rent an Esbjerg apartment, known as the pearl of the North Sea.

Places to Visit in Esbjerg

  • Mennesker ved havet (Men of the Sea) is a nine meter tall statue with four men sitting by the sea that represents the essence of Esbjerg, and is one of the city's classic sites. The monument was made in white granite by SvendWiig Hansen.
  • The Maritime Museum in Esbjerg is located by the port, just 10 minutes from the center. The exhibition is comprised of antique utensils and other objects that reveal the city's origins and the evolution of the Danish fishing activity. There is also an aquarium and entertaining shows with seals where kids get the chance to feed and touch them. It's an ideal place to visit with your family and it also has a great cafeteria overlooking the island of Fanø.
  • The Esbjerg Vandtårn, or the Esbjerg Water Tower, is a true work of art. Its construction dates back to 1897. It was designed by the Danish architect Christian Hjerrild Claussen, and was inspired by the Nassauerde Núremberg House. It's located at the top of a cliff with amazing views over the harbor.
  • If you enjoy the opera and scholarly music, the Esbjerg Concert Hall is a place you must visit. Even if you don't particularly like this type of music, it's interesting to learn about how the Danish have converted industrial spaces into wonderful places, as this concert hall is located in what used to be Esbjerg's power plant.

If these places are of interest to you then let me tell you that there are many more, such as the Vognsbøl Parken where festivals and outdoor activities are held or the Tobakken concert hall. Renting one of our apartments in Esbjerg is the best way of learning more about these places, as they are located close to all of them. The further away apartments are less expensive, however you can still reach the different sights by bicycle.
