Roses is both a popular tourist hub and an historic centre. Set on the beautiful Costa Brava, it can be found to the north of the Gulf of Roses. Here, you'll discover a town that's quintessentially Mediterranean, while at the same time keeping its traditions as a vibrant fishing port. The town itself dates right back to the 8th century BC, when the Greeks arrived and claimed it as their own. Since then, it has prospered and evolved into a stunning modern town with plenty of culture, history, and heritage to explore. Since the mid-20th century, Roses has come alive, boasting an eclectic collection of bars, restaurants, galleries, and shops. It's also popular with tourists who are looking for a beautiful beachside destination with plenty of things to do. Get stuck into everything on offer with our Roses apartments. These budget luxury holiday rentals are dotted all over town, putting you right in the centre of all the action.
Roses offers the opportunity to create an itinerary that suits you and your travelling needs. There's a bit of something for everyone, but how do you know where to start?
The perfect day in Roses begins by checking out the local fish auctions that take place by the port. Watching this local performance is a great way to learn more about the lifestyle of the area, and to watch some of the local culture in action.
Afterwards, you could head up to Roses' Citadel to explore some of the ancient ruins and narratives of the region. Spend a couple of hours wandering around the lush grounds and soaking up all the interactive information and displays. Even if you're not a massive history buff, you'll enjoy the views over Roses from the top of the hill.
In the afternoon you can head to the beach for a little rest and relaxation. The beaches in Roses are beautiful, with lush turquoise waters perfect for cooling off in. Here, you can kick back and relax with a book, frolic in the waves, or try your hand at some watersports, like kayaking, waterskiing, windsurfing, or snorkelling. When you're feeling peckish, you can head to one of the beachfront restaurants and try a local fish dish.
As evening descends, you might want to wander around the town and dip into some shops, or you might simply want to grab a cocktail and watch the sunset over the sea. For dinner it's well worth grabbing a table at one of the local fish restaurants and tucking into a feast whilst overlooking the beach.
However you decide to spend you days, our Roses apartments are the perfect place to head back to after exploring.
Whether you're a history buff or not, there are plenty of things to do around Roses, from kicking back on the beach and delving into the town's past to shopping and splashing out at the local waterpark. Because of its eclectic personality and mishmash of things to do, Roses accommodation offers a bit of everything. Along the seafront there are high-rise hotels that overlook the beach, whilst further into the town there are cute boutique hotels, guesthouses that hark back to medieval times, and hostels that give budget travellers the chance to explore Roses on their own terms. In addition, there are plenty of studio blocks and apartments to check into, which are perfect if you're looking to get to know the town on an individual level. Whatever accommodation type you go for, Roses won't disappoint with its rich history, vibrant culture, and incredible scenery.
Roses can easily be reached from both Girona Airport and Barcelona Airport. Thanks to an efficient public transport system, it's quick, cheap, and hassle free to get into town.
From both airports you can hop on the bus line that travels direct to Roses along the coast, via various other beautiful destinations on the Costa Brava. In the summer months there are more buses, but it's worth booking a seat as the route can get very busy. Alternatively, you can grab a bus from the centre of Barcelona by heading to Barcelona's central Sants station and getting the metro to the Nord bus station.
Roses is also well connected with Figueres, so you can get the train from Barcelona or Girona to Figueres and then get the regular bus into Roses.
There's always the option to hire a car, too, which means you can travel at your own pace and stop off along the way at some of the Costa Brava's beautiful hidden hotspots.
