Gargiulo & Jannuzzi is set inside an old-fashioned warehouse that harks back to 1863 and features three floors of homemade crafts. One of the shop's enthusiastic assistants will guide you through the array of hand-painted crockery, wooden pieces, embroidery, and intricate pottery so you can pick up the perfect souvenir for your trip.

If it's just wooden pieces you're after, head to Stinga, a family-run crafts shop that has been passed down from generation to generation. Today, it sells an expansive range of inlaid-wood objects that feature a strong use of traditional colour and design as well as mosaics and eye-catching geometric shapes. You can also browse the ornate jewellery collection made by one of the family members.

Leather sandals are a firm favourite in Sorrento, and you'll find plenty of shops selling them throughout the streets of the old town. Head to the end of Via Fuoro though, and you'll stumble across La Rapida, a tiny, authentic cobbler's shop that sells and repairs handmade leather shoes.

  • Amalfi Coast -- This stretch of picturesque coastline is one of the most recognisable scenes from Italy, showcasing pockets of colourful hillside villages and untouched sprawling beaches. The 50km stretch of coastline skims the southern edge of the Sorrento Peninsula and harbours a rugged backdrop of sheer cliffs and cute coves. On the way to the Amalfi Coast, you'll pass jaw-dropping Italian villas tucked into lush vineyards and lemon groves.
  • Piazza Tasso -- Located right in the heart of Sorrento, the Piazza Tasso is a traditional square named after Torquato Tasso, a famous Italian poet. Here you'll find plenty of terraced cafes, impressive architecture, and snippets of local daily life.
  • Mount Vesuvius -- One of the best-known volcanoes lies just a short distance from Sorrento, exposing you to stunning crater views and breath-taking scenery. Staring out in Sorrento -- How to Get There

The easiest way to get to the city and our Sorrento apartments is to fly into Naples Airport which is about an hour's drive away. The road takes you past Pompeii and offers up some spectacular scenery, but the traffic can often be bad, particularly in the summer months. For the cheapest option, though, you can hop on a train from the airport to the Central Station in Naples and, from there, catch the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento.

Alternatively, you can get the Curreri Viaggi bus which runs between Naples and Sorrento, though the timetables are often erratic depending on the season and the journey usually takes longer than the train. If money is not an issue you can also hire a private transfer or grab a taxi from outside the airport. At about an hour long, the journey isn't short or particularly cheap, but it is perfect if you looking to get dropped straight at your door.

To experience the full beauty of the region surrounding Sorrento, your best bet is to hire a car from the airport. This means you can travel to the city at your own pace and take in the beautiful scenery along the way. It also means that you have a form of transport to use when you're in Sorrento, so you can independently travel to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and other nearby hotspots.
