Martinique is an extraordinary French island located in the Caribbean Sea. This is the perfect place to enjoy French culture away from the Continent. From its capital, Fort-de-France, it is easy to make day trips to the mountains, in the direction of the Pitons du Carbet rainforest or to the ruins of the Dubuc castle. For the more adventurous, the volcano known as Mount Pelée is a challenge to rise to. Those who would rather relax can enjoy the white sandy beaches of Grand Anse and the underwater caves of Cap Enragé. Architectural tourism is also prominent in Martinique thanks to the Schoelcher library (built by architect Henri Pick for the World Fair in 1889) and the Paul Gauguin Museum in St. Pierre.
