The Cultural Museums of La Palma

As well as an abundance of natural landscapes, La Palma is also home to a fascinating heritage and culture, which is evident in its array of museums dotted around the island. Whatever narrative you’re looking to explore, there’s an institution that will guide you along the way.

The Museo de la Seda is a silk factory that documents the traditional silk making process from the 16th century up until the present day. The island is known for its silk-making industry which has barely changed since its beginnings. As well as a museum that exhibits a range of beautiful silk garments, there are also interactive showcases that highlight the processes and history of the industry.

Elsewhere, the Museo Casa Roja is set inside an eye-catching red mansion and plays host to numerous exhibits on embroidery and Corpus Christi (a festival that sees streets bloom with intricate flower carpets). In addition, the interior of the museum is well worth a wander, with its gorgeous imperial staircase and delicate tiled floors.

Then there’s the Museo Insular, which can be found inside a rustic 16th century monastery. This weird and wonderful museum focuses on a range of unique exhibits, from Guanche skulls to stuffed birds, pickled reptiles, and hundreds of ornate shells. Aside from this, there are galleries filled to the brim with 20th century Spanish paintings and some newer pieces of contemporary art.

If you’re into seafaring, check out the Museo Naval, the island’s naval museum, which is home to impressive model ships, documents, and marine-related displays.

Our La Palma apartments are dotted all over the island, so you’ll be able to find a fascinating museum close by, wherever you choose to stay.

You can get from one Canary Island to another via boat. There are regular ferry services throughout the day that connect up La Palma with its beautiful neighbours for very reasonable prices.

One of the best ways to explore the island is by hiring a car of your own, which you can pick up from the airport or from one of the pick-up points in the resorts and capital.
