Labelled a natural park, the area offers a surreal backdrop to the otherwise familiar beach scenery. Corralejo offers both a cultural look at island life and the typical makings of a modern day holiday resort, providing tons of things to do for every kind of traveler. The Archaeological Gems of Corralejo

Corralejo is one of the oldest settlements in Fuerteventura and is therefore one of the richest in archaeological wonders. On nearby Mount Tindaya , an imposing peak that backs the town, there are centuries-old petroglyphs and a network of ancient caves. The Llano de Villaverde cave is one of the more popular sites, where you can see a selection of petrified artefacts, molluscs, and ceramics from aboriginal peoples, as well as paleontological remains. In addition, Esquinzo cave and the Guriame cave are home to ancient burial sites, whilst the Los Idolos cave is home to stone utensils, old ceramic furnishings, and five model idols made from stone and bone.

Nearby, there's also the La Arena Badlands Natural Monument, which was formed more than 10,000 years ago from the residue of volcanic eruptions. This has resulted in a landscape of surreal beauty that has stood the test of time.

The area surrounding Corralejo is known for its eclectic volcanic formations, and the Calderon Hondo volcanic cone is one of the most impressive landmarks. With a circular base and a 70m deep core, it's a marvel of nature. From here, you can also see numerous other volcanoes that edge the coastline, including Lomo Blanco , La Raya , and La Mancha.

Amongst this humpbacked landscape you'll find the Vallebron Protected Landscape , which is made up of a lengthy ridge that leads down into two valleys either side. To the east of this formation there's Mount Muda, a site of historic interest thanks to its archaeological finds and a peculiar burial system that has been discovered there.

Corralejo is so much more than pretty beaches. With an otherworldly landscape filled with historic sites and legends, it's the perfect place to learn more about ancient life and discover breath-taking geographical formations. Our apartments in Corralejo are close to all the major landmarks, giving you plenty of opportunity to get to grips with everything on offer.
