Throughout the undulating scenery, narrow lanes wind their way up the mountains and past tiny houses perched on hillsides. The island isn't the standard beach-lover's affair either. Instead, it harbours an ancient narrative that's brought to life with contemporary Spanish culture and a lively, laidback atmosphere. Hiking is the most popular activity, with walkers crisscrossing over the summits and valleys, and there's also an air of bohemian charm penetrating through the villages and open spaces. Explore the diverse landscape and personality with our La Gomera apartments -- a collection of spacious studios and boutique rentals where you can kick back, enjoy the views, and really get stuck into local life.

Beachside Towns and Otherworldly Backdrops - Things to do in La Gomera

  • Valle Gran Rey -- Located in the west of La Gomera, this is the main tourist hub on the island. Its ravine backdrop is picturesque, whilst its beaches are a flurry of white sands, sunbathing, and swimming.
  • Garajonay National Park -- Set firmly in the middle of La Gomera, this national park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 and boasts a landscape filled with lush forests, incredible velvet-green hills, and impressive views.
  • San Sebastian de la Gomera -- This port town offers day trips to the other Canary Islands, as well as a vibrant beach and harbour side filled with great restaurants, bars, and cafes.
  • Agulo -- Considered to be one of La Gomera's most beautiful hotspots, Agulo is packed full of colonial buildings and quaint architecture that lines narrow streets. It's set against a backdrop of soaring mountains and gorgeous sea views.
  • Hermigua -- The rough and rugged landscape of Hermigua is a firm favourite for adventure lovers in La Gomera. Green hills roll down into turquoise waters and town life is laidback and traditional. It's a great place for hiking and surfing, whilst the convents add a historic touch to the proceedings.
  • Vallehermoso, Santa Cruz de Tenerife -- This village is located to the west of the island and is home to stunning beaches, a botanical garden and plenty of cultural institutions to get stuck into.

La Gomera is a haven of nature, adventure, and culture, from the soaring mountainous landscape that looks like it's stepped out of a fairytale, to the tiny towns filled with traditional bars, cafes, and restaurants, and the plethora of hiking routes and water sports opportunities. Our La Gomera apartments offer the ideal place to catch some rest after a busy day exploring, where you can kick back, relax, and enjoy the island at your own pace.

The Best Beaches in La Gomera

As well as a stunning, rugged scenery filled with mountains, valleys, and jutting rock formations, La Gomera also boasts a selection of beautiful beaches for a more laidback adventure.

Avalo beach is located to the north of San Sebastian de La Gomera and is a black sand beach lined with a collection of swaying palm trees.

Playa del Cabrito is a more isolated affair, and can be reached by boat from San Sebastian's port. Covered with unusual black sand and pebbles, the calm waters are ideal for splashing about in the shallows and cooling off in the summer sun.

Chinguarime looks like another planet with its black pebbles and sand. Surrounded by high, rugged cliffs, the contrast of the dark natural wonders with the rich blue of the sea is an incredible sight.

El Medio is similar to Chingaurime beach in that it's an isolated haven of black sand and calm sea views. It's a favourite spot for naturists and is easily reached via a number of hiking trails.

La Cueva is another isolated cove near San Sebastian, boasting flat black sands and calm blue waters. It's ringed by tufty greenery and there are silhouettes of the mountains in the distance.

Finally, there's Playa de La Guancha, with crystal clear waters and uninterrupted views out towards the horizon. It's an isolated spot perfect for kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the island.

Our apartments in La Gomera give you easy access to all of these beaches and more.

Getting into La Gomera

Despite La Gomera having its own airport, international flights aren't yet available here, so the best way to get to the island is via Tenerife. From Tenerife's airport you can get a free bus to the port of Los Cristianos in the south of the island, which takes about 15 minutes, and hop on a ferry to La Gomera. The ferries take around an hour and arrive in the popular port of San Sebastian. From San Sebastian you can get a bus or a taxi to your final destination, which run regularly and are very affordable.

Alternatively, you can get a domestic flight from Tenerife's airport to the smaller La Gomera airport. There are flights leaving daily.

Once you get onto La Gomera you might want to hire a car if you plan on travelling around the island and seeing all it has to offer. This allows you to explore at your own place, and really dig into the hidden nooks and crannies of the island.
