A Taste of Local Life in Ibiza

Despite its reputation as a party-loving destination, Ibiza also boasts a lengthy and fascinating history that spans thousands of years. As well as age-old architecture, it is home to colourful traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation, including food and drink.

For a local speciality, tuck into guisat de peix, a delicious and hearty seafood stew served up with potato and garlic mayonnaise. This has been a favourite dish of the island for years and is the perfect way to delve into its seaside culture. The island is also a huge supplier of honey, almonds, and fig jam, and you can find numerous shops selling these local specialities throughout the island. To wash it all down, have a shot of Hierbas Ibicencas, a locally-produced liqueur that is made using thyme, rosemary, and other aromatic plants. For a souvenir, bring back some island-made flavoured sea salt which has been a treat for Ibiza locals for centuries -- the salt pans date way back to 800 BC.

Get Adventurous in Ibiza

Ibiza has some incredible scenery throughout the island, filled with rolling mountains and coastal views. Feel at one with nature with a horseback ride through the forests of northern Ibiza, taking in the flora and fauna that call the island home and enjoying a slower pace of life. There are plenty of hiking routes across the island, too, where you can discover tiny villages, historic landmarks, and sweeping landscapes.

For the more adventurous, there are numerous diving sites like Las Salinas. Here, you can discover the underwater world of Ibiza which lies beneath the sparkling blue sea.

Arriving in Ibiza and Getting Around

Getting to our Ibiza apartments is easy, wherever you choose to stay on the island. The airport is connected to most of the major towns, villages, and resorts by efficient bus routes that take you past some of the island's beautiful scenery. Journeys are cheap and buses leave regularly. Alternatively, you can hop in a taxi or hire a private shuttle service to take you right to your doorstep. Remember to settle on a price before you the ride begins.

A lot of people choose to hire a car when they arrive in Ibiza, as it means they can explore the island at their own pace and on their own terms. With so much to see and do across the island, it's a great idea to have your own transport, especially if you plan on visiting off-the-beaten-track destinations and venture into the more remote parts of the island.

In most of the major towns there are bus routes that travel from one attraction to the next as well as buses that connect up other resorts and villages along the way. It's unlikely you'll need to use public transport in many of the towns as they are relatively small and easy to walk around. That being said, a lot of people hire bikes to whizz quickly from one place to the next and explore the scenery from a different perspective.
