Cannes is defined by its collection of couture shops and the world-famous film festival. But there's so much more to it than this. Palaces flourish along wide boulevards, glamorous visitors sip on cappuccinos outside stylish cafes, fast cars flash their colours, and celebrities kick back and relax on huge yachts. This is the luxury lifestyle in Cannes, and it's this hedonism that draws in tourists time and time again. But if you're travelling on a budget, there are some smaller hotels and guesthouses dotted around, as well as a number of boutique and affordable apartments located in all the major hotspots.

The Cultural Hotspots in Cannes

Cannes isn't just glamorous restaurants, glitzy nightclubs, and celeb-speckled beaches. There's a hearty dose of culture infused along its coastline, too, with a range of museums that are perfect for getting to know about this fascinating place.

The Museum of the Sea can be found in a 17th Century fort, Fort Royal, and is reached through a walkway of aromatic pine trees. Once there, you can explore the old state prisons that were situated in the fort and wander amongst collections of artefacts, documents, and stories that showcase the history of the fort.

If you're more of a contemporary art lover, then head to La Malmaison. Situated along La Croisette, it's right in the sumptuous centre of the city. La Malmaison itself is set inside a seaside pavilion in a historic hotel oozing with grandeur. It opened in 1864 and features a luxurious look into the past, but there's also a selection of modern art exhibitions dotted around.

Film enthusiasts will enjoy the Allee des Etoiles du Cinema, which can be found next to the Palais des Festivals. Here, visitors can browse the collection of celebrity handprints that have been immortalised in the pavement.

Then there's the Musee de la Castre, which showcases an exceptional array of ethnographic textiles, artefacts, and stories spanning back hundreds of years.

Whether you're looking to discover the contemporary art scene in Cannes, learn more about the history, or simply get a taste for its traditions, make sure you book into one of our Cannes apartments which can be found close by to all of these fascinating museums.

Arriving in Style - Getting to Cannes From the Airport

The majority of visitors to Cannes land in Nice's Cote d'Azur International Airport, from which there are a number of options to transfer to Cannes.

The easiest way is to hop on the express coaches that travel from the airport to the centre of Cannes. Coaches leave every half an hour from the airport and the trip takes around 45 minutes.

For a cheaper, but equally as easy option, you can get the train from the St Augustine Station in Nice to Cannes. The train journey is shorter than the coach ride at 30 minutes, and services leave every half an hour.

Finally, if you're really looking to pinch the pennies, you can get the bus. It's certainly the cheapest option, but it's not the most convenient or the quickest. The journey takes around 80 minutes, though this is often longer as the route travels along local roads that regularly see delays. Buses leave from Nice Airport and drop passengers off at two stops in Cannes city centre, as well as a whole host of other stops along the way. It can be a great way to experience local life before you get to Cannes, but it's not recommended for those travelling with lots of luggage as there isn't that much space.

Regardless of how you get to Cannes from the airport, be sure to book in advance if you're travelling in August. This is peak season and all transportation tends to sell out during this time, so plan ahead to avoid any disappointment.
